THE PROBLEM
The Friends of Texas Wildlife (FTWL) website faced significant usability issues, including unclear navigation due to nested tabs and complex flowcharts, an overwhelming amount of information without relevant imagery, and an irregular color palette that did not align with the organization’s mission and values. These problems made it difficult for users to quickly find and access crucial information, especially in emergencies.
OUR APPROACH
Our team of three tackled these issues by conducting a comprehensive heuristic evaluation, followed by user interviews and surveys to gather insights. We organized our findings using an affinity diagram and created a user persona story board and journey map to guide our design process. A thorough competitor analysis helped us understand the market landscape. We developed site maps and user flows to streamline navigation and improve information hierarchy. Wireframes and interactive prototypes were created, and we conducted A/B testing and guerrilla user testing to refine the design. Key improvements included restructuring navigation, enhancing visual elements, and creating a comprehensive style guide for consistent branding.
RESULT
The redesigned FTWL website features improved navigation, clearer information hierarchy, and engaging visuals, significantly enhancing user experience. Usability tests showed users could easily find and access critical resources. The final design supports FTWL's mission by making it easier for users to find and act on wildlife conservation information, ultimately contributing to the organization's goals of wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.
